System Restore Sucks

I thought system restore would return my computer to a pre-existing state. I tried system restoring back to july 22, 2005 and the results weren't what I hoped.

All my recent junk files and programs were still on my computer and I don't know why I bothered. In addition, a few programs in my Program Files folder were listed twice. I tried undoing the restore but it kept failing which really pissed me off.

Is system restore with anything? What is the best software/program I should use to back up my pc. I want to restore my computer to the EXACT state.

did you use the xp system restore, to restore to a previous date? If so, yes it does suck. You need to use restore disks that came with the PC or partition the hard drive and then reinstall windows. This will put it back to factory settings. After this is done, I would run cyberscrub on all remaining free space to take care of all info floating around still on your HD.

Any recommended software I can use? My Sony notebook didn't come with restore disks.

Do you have the XP disk? If you have the XP disk, you can just put it in the cd-rom and restart the computer. It should bring you to the XP install page where you need to partition your hard drive and reinstall xp. Give me the compter specs (Model number) and I will see if I can get you step by step instructions.

If this doesn't work call them, they will send you the discs.
